Ziggy Sixpence @ The Shack - 22/4/22
I can't believe that we almost have April 2022 in the history books! Time does fly...whether you're having fun or not lol. So, my take on it is, take one day at a time, live it like it could be your last, and enjoy the blessings of the day!
With that in mind, I decided to take in a live entertainment set. Earlier in the week my friend Poppy Threebeards messaged me for a little chat, as we hadn't touched base in a while, and she mentioned that Ziggy Sixpence was going to be singing today at 12 noon slt. Fortunately, I remembered it at about 11:58 am so off I went to catch the show.
Poppy and Alsund are the co-owners of The Shack, located on Sunset Beach. It's a great little venue with a "toes in the sand" feel, and you will enjoy the ambiance as long as you watch out for falling coconuts!
Ziggy was just starting his first song, a great country number by the late John Denver called "Country Road." Ziggy has a crisp and clear sound that matches up so well with his acoustic guitar playing. I have to say the next several songs were brand new to me, but Ziggy has a way of drawing a mental picture for you as he sings the lyrics. His vocals are smooth and on pitch, sung with the feeling of an artist who wants you to capture the essence of the music and the words.
"That Sea, the Gambler" was one of the folk/Americana numbers on an album of the same name, by Gregory Alan Isakov. One writer called it a metaphor about navigating love, which is truly a gamble because it's uncharted area, or possibly about the journey of a relationship and how it can be rough like the ocean or very long with no land in site.
It seems to me that Ziggy loved songs that told their own story in the lyrics and the following numbers did just that.
"What are you listening to" by Chris Stapleton, Peter Gabriel's "The Book of Love", "Heartbeats" by Jose Gonzalez and "Human" by The Killers, all numbers that each had a message for the hearer.
Ziggy's next song was a light and fun number, "Brown Eyed Girl" by Van Morrison, but things got deep again real soon with "Personal Jesus" by Depeche Mode, and also Ziggy said, done at one time by Johnny Cash. The last four songs, "Only You" by Yazoo, "Chill in the Air" done by Amos Lee, "Your Song" by Elton John, and the piece de resistance, "You Belong to Me" by Bob Dylan ended a great hour of music done by a very talented artist. Thanks for a great set Ziggy!
